Possible Causes

Moisture inside keypad, Damaged or worn membrane keypad, Contaminated keypad ribbon connector, Faulty control board key-scan circuit

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the microwave before cleaning or inspection.

Steps:

  • Clean and dry keypad: Wipe the keypad with a soft, dry cloth. If there are sticky residues, use a slightly damp cloth with mild soap, then dry thoroughly. Do not spray cleaner directly on the panel.
  • Allow to dry: If SE appeared after heavy steam cooking, leave the door open and let the unit air out for several hours with power disconnected.
  • Reseat keypad ribbon (if accessible from front): Remove the top grille and control panel mounting screw, tilt the panel out (with power unplugged), and carefully unplug/replug the keypad ribbon cable.

If SE returns, the keypad membrane or control panel assembly must be replaced. Because this involves disassembly near live circuits, have a technician perform the repair.
