Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the microwave and allow it to cool before opening.
Check airflow externally:
- Ensure rear and side vents are not blocked by cabinets, walls, or objects.
- For over-the-range models, verify that the exhaust duct is not crushed or blocked.
Internal inspection:
- Remove the outer cabinet to access the internal cooling fan (usually near the magnetron and transformer).
- Inspect the fan blades for grease buildup, debris, or damage. Clean carefully if dirty.
- Spin the fan by hand; it should rotate freely without grinding or wobbling.
- Check the fan motor wiring harness for secure connections and no burn marks.
Testing and repair:
- With the unit unplugged, test the fan motor windings for continuity using a multimeter. An open circuit indicates a failed motor.
- Replace a failed fan motor with a Magic Chef-compatible internal cooling fan motor.
- If your model uses an airflow sensor or thermal protector in series with the fan, test it for continuity and replace if open at room temperature (unless it is a resettable type that has not reset).
Final check: Reassemble, restore power, and run a short cook cycle. Confirm the fan runs and E7 does not reappear.
