Possible Causes
Failed humidity sensor, Blocked sensor port with grease or food, Loose sensor wiring, Faulty sensor circuit on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the microwave before internal cleaning near sensors.
Steps:
- 1. Clean the cavity roof and sensor area: The humidity (steam) sensor is usually located on the top or side wall behind a small grille. Clean the area thoroughly with a mild degreaser and soft cloth to remove grease film.
- 2. Avoid covering vents: Do not cover the sensor area with plastic wrap or large covers during sensor cooking.
- 3. Test standard cooking: If timed cooking works but sensor modes fail with E12, the sensor or its circuit is at fault.
- 4. Internal inspection (experienced DIYers): Remove the cabinet and locate the humidity sensor module. Check its connector and wiring for damage or looseness.
Note: If cleaning and reseating connections do not resolve E12, the humidity sensor module should be replaced.
