Possible Causes
Faulty weight sensor under cavity, Loose sensor mounting screws, Damaged sensor wiring, Control board misreading sensor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the microwave before accessing the base or underside.
Steps:
- 1. Remove all items: Take out the glass tray, roller ring, and any cookware. Ensure nothing is pressing on the cavity floor from inside.
- 2. Reset sensor: With the cavity empty, plug in the microwave and wait for it to initialize. Some models auto-calibrate the weight sensor at power-up.
- 3. Test auto-defrost: Place a known weight of food and try the function again. If E17 persists, the sensor may be faulty.
- 4. Internal check (experienced DIYers): Access the underside of the cavity to locate the weight sensor module. Verify that it is firmly mounted and that the wiring harness is intact.
Note: Replacement of the weight sensor should be done with the correct MasterChef part to maintain calibration accuracy.
