Possible Causes
Damaged or burnt waveguide cover, Exposed metal (twist ties, foil, utensils), Chipped cavity paint exposing metal, Food splatter carbonized on walls
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Stop the microwave immediately by pressing STOP/CLEAR and unplug it. Do not continue to operate while arcing occurs.
Steps:
- 1. Remove metal objects: Ensure there is no aluminum foil, metal cookware, or twist ties inside.
- 2. Inspect waveguide cover: Locate the waveguide cover (usually a small mica or plastic panel on the side wall). If it is burnt, cracked, or has holes, it must be replaced.
- 3. Clean cavity: Thoroughly clean the interior with a mild detergent to remove grease and burnt food. Pay special attention to corners and around the waveguide cover.
- 4. Touch-up paint: If small chips in the cavity paint expose bare metal, use microwave-safe cavity touch-up paint to cover them, following the product instructions.
Note: Persistent arcing after cleaning and replacing the waveguide cover may indicate deeper damage to the waveguide or magnetron and should be evaluated by a technician.
