Basic checks:

• Open and close the door firmly several times. Listen for distinct clicks from the switches. If the door feels loose or does not latch solidly, the latch or hinges may be misaligned.
• Inspect the door for visible damage, bent hinges, or broken latch hooks.

Access door switches (over-the-range models):

• Unplug the microwave.
• Remove the top grille and the screw(s) securing the control panel. Tilt the panel out to access the door switch assembly on the right side.
• Locate the switch bracket with 2–3 micro-switches actuated by the door latch.
• Check for loose mounting screws, cracked plastic brackets, or burnt switch terminals.

Testing switches (for experienced DIYers):

• Label and disconnect the wires from each switch.
• Use a multimeter in continuity mode to test each switch while pressing and releasing the actuator. The switch should change from open to closed (or vice versa) as specified.
• Any switch that does not change state reliably should be replaced.

Corrective action:

• Replace any defective door interlock switch and/or the door latch / switch bracket assembly.
• Ensure the bracket is firmly mounted and the door closes evenly and fully.

Final check: After reassembly, verify the door seals evenly all around and that the microwave only runs when the door is fully closed.
