Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the microwave before any inspection. Internal fuses and thermostats are near high-voltage components.
External checks:
- Verify the outlet has power by testing with another appliance.
- Check the home circuit breaker or fuse for the microwave circuit.
Internal components (for experienced DIYers only):
- Remove the outer cover (countertop) or access panels (over-the-range) to locate the line fuse and thermal fuses/thermostats.
- Use a multimeter to test continuity of the line fuse and thermal devices. Replace any that are open.
- If a fuse is blown, there is usually an underlying cause (shorted component or door switch); do not simply replace the fuse without diagnosing the root cause.
When to call a pro: If you are not comfortable working around high-voltage components, or if a new fuse blows immediately, contact a qualified technician.
