Possible Causes
Defective membrane keypad, Damaged touch glass or capacitive sensor, Loose or oxidized keypad ribbon cable, Failed keypad interface circuit on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the microwave before accessing the control panel.
Step-by-step checks:
- 1. Confirm keypad issue: Try pressing multiple keys. If some keys work and others do not, or if random functions trigger, the keypad membrane is likely failing.
- 2. Power reset: Unplug for 5 minutes, then plug back in. Occasionally, a logic glitch can cause temporary keypad errors.
- 3. Access control panel (experienced DIYers): Remove the screws securing the control panel. Carefully pull the panel forward to expose the keypad ribbon cable and control board.
- 4. Reseat ribbon cable: Unlock the connector latch (if present), remove the ribbon, inspect for corrosion or cracks, then reinsert fully and lock. Ensure it is straight and fully seated.
- 5. Inspect keypad: If the keypad is a separate membrane stuck to the panel, look for bubbles, moisture, or physical damage. Any contamination can cause E6.
- 6. Replace faulty part: If reseating does not help, replace the keypad membrane or the entire control panel assembly, depending on your Midea model design. If a new keypad does not resolve E6, the control board keypad interface is likely defective and must be replaced.
