Possible Causes

Defective primary door switch, Defective secondary door switch, Misaligned door latch hooks, Failed door switch wiring harness

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the Morphy Richards microwave from the mains and wait at least 10 minutes before removing any covers. High-voltage components inside a microwave can retain a dangerous charge even when unplugged. Do not touch the high-voltage capacitor or magnetron area unless you are trained and have discharged the capacitor properly.

Step-by-step checks:

  • 1. Inspect the door and latch: Open and close the door several times. Check that the plastic latch hooks on the door are not cracked, bent, or loose. Ensure the door closes evenly and sits flush with the cabinet.
  • 2. Listen for switch clicks: With the unit unplugged, slowly close the door and listen for 2–3 distinct clicks from the interlock switches. If one click is missing or very weak, a switch may be faulty or misaligned.
  • 3. Check the door switches (for trained persons only): Remove the outer cabinet to access the door interlock assembly on the right-hand side. Visually inspect the primary and secondary door switches and the monitor switch for heat damage, discoloration, or broken actuators.
  • 4. Test continuity: Using a multimeter set to continuity, test each door switch according to its NO/NC configuration. Replace any switch that does not change state when the actuator is pressed.
  • 5. Inspect wiring harness: Check the small wiring harness from the door switches to the control PCB for loose spade connectors, broken insulation, or burnt terminals. Reseat any loose connectors firmly.
  • 6. Reassemble and test: Refit the cabinet, plug the microwave back in, and test with a microwave-safe cup of water for 30–60 seconds. Confirm that E1 no longer appears and that the turntable rotates and heats.

When to stop: If E1 persists after replacing the door switches and verifying alignment, the fault may be on the control PCB. In that case, contact an authorized Morphy Richards service center.
