Possible Causes
Damaged membrane keypad, Loose ribbon cable between keypad and control PCB, Corroded keypad connector, Failed control PCB keypad interface
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the microwave before removing the control panel or cabinet.
Steps:
- 1. Power cycle: Unplug the unit for 5 minutes, then reconnect. Sometimes E6 can be cleared by a full reset if caused by a transient glitch.
- 2. Inspect keypad surface: Check for physical damage, liquid spills, or bubbling on the membrane keypad. Liquid ingress can short the keypad matrix.
- 3. Access control panel: Remove the screws securing the control panel (usually on the side or behind the trim). Carefully tilt the panel forward.
- 4. Check ribbon cable: Locate the flat ribbon cable from the keypad to the control PCB. Gently unplug and reinsert it, ensuring it is fully seated and straight. Look for corrosion or bent contacts.
- 5. Test keypad response: Reassemble loosely, plug in, and test each button. If some keys still do not respond or E6 returns, the membrane keypad is likely faulty.
- 6. Replace keypad or full control panel: On many Morphy Richards models, the keypad is bonded to the fascia and is replaced as a complete control panel assembly. Transfer any brackets or screws from the old panel to the new one.
If replacing the keypad does not resolve E6, the main control PCB may need replacement by a service technician.
