Possible Causes
Liquid spill into keypad, Worn or shorted membrane switch, Damaged keypad ribbon cable, Faulty control PCB key scan circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the microwave before cleaning or disassembly.
Steps:
- 1. Clean keypad surface: Wipe the keypad gently with a slightly damp cloth and mild detergent. Do not allow liquid to run into the edges of the membrane.
- 2. Dry thoroughly: If a spill occurred, leave the door open and allow the control panel area to dry for several hours. Do not use a hair dryer or heat gun directly on the panel.
- 3. Power reset: After drying, plug the unit back in. If SE persists, a key may be permanently shorted.
- 4. Inspect ribbon cable: Remove the control panel and check the keypad ribbon for cracks or corrosion. Reseat the connector on the control PCB.
- 5. Replace keypad/control panel: If SE remains, replace the membrane keypad or full control panel assembly with a Morphy Richards-compatible part.
If a new keypad does not resolve SE, the control PCB is likely faulty and should be replaced.
