OK Partial Keypad / Membrane Failure

Microwave display works but START button does not respond; other buttons may work

Advertisements

Possible Causes

Worn START key contact on membrane keypad, Cracked keypad ribbon cable, Corroded keypad connector on control PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the microwave before accessing the control panel.

  • 1. Try alternate start method: Some OK models allow starting by pressing a quick-start time button (e.g., 30s). If that works, the START key itself is faulty.
  • 2. Clean keypad surface: Wipe with a mild cleaner and dry. Sticky residue can sometimes affect key response.
  • 3. Reseat keypad ribbon: Remove the control panel and carefully unplug and replug the keypad ribbon cable.
  • 4. Inspect ribbon: Look for cracks or worn traces near the bend points. If damaged, replace the keypad assembly.
  • 5. If multiple keys fail: Replace the entire membrane keypad or control panel fascia.
