Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the appliance. Heating elements and surrounding metal can remain hot after use.
Step-by-step checks:
- 1. Test in microwave-only mode: Try a normal microwave heating cycle. If microwave-only works but grill/combination shows E05, the fault is in the grill circuit.
- 2. Inspect the grill element: Look at the top of the cavity for visible breaks, blisters, or burn marks on the grill element.
- 3. Access wiring: Remove the outer cabinet. Trace the wires from the grill element to the connectors and thermal cut-out. Check for loose spade terminals or burned insulation.
- 4. Test the grill element: Disconnect the element and measure resistance with a multimeter. An open circuit indicates a failed element that must be replaced.
- 5. Check the temperature sensor/NTC: Locate the cavity temperature sensor (often clipped to the cavity wall or duct). Test its resistance at room temperature and compare with service data; a reading of open or short indicates failure.
- 6. Inspect thermal cut-out: Test any thermal cut-out in series with the grill for continuity. Replace if open and not resettable.
Note: If all components test correctly, the control board's grill relay or sensor input may be defective and require board replacement by a technician.
