Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the microwave from the mains. Microwaves contain a high-voltage capacitor that can retain a dangerous charge even when unplugged. Do not touch internal high-voltage components (capacitor, transformer, magnetron, HV diode). If you are not experienced, contact a qualified technician.
Basic checks you can do safely:
- Inspect the door: Open and close the door several times. Ensure it closes evenly and the latch hooks are not cracked or bent.
- Check for obstructions: Make sure no food debris or warped door seals are preventing the door from closing fully.
- Test door activation: With the door closed, gently lift and push on the door. If the E1 code appears or disappears when you move the door, the door switches or latch alignment are likely faulty.
For a technician / advanced DIY:
- Remove the outer cabinet (after unplugging) to access the door interlock switch assembly on the right side of the cavity.
- Use a multimeter to test continuity of the primary and secondary door switches while operating the door latch. Replace any switch that does not change state correctly.
- Inspect the door latch hooks and switch mounting bracket for cracks or deformation and replace if damaged.
