Microwave stops heating shortly after start and displays E2

Safety first: Unplug the microwave before inspection. Do not operate the unit with the cover removed. High voltage is present inside even when not heating.

• 1. Check ventilation: Ensure the rear, sides, and top vents of the Russell Hobbs microwave are not blocked by walls, cabinets, or objects. Maintain at least the clearance specified in the user manual (typically several centimeters around the unit).
• 2. Clean air intake and exhaust: Use a soft brush or vacuum to remove dust and grease from the external vents. Grease buildup can restrict airflow and cause overheating.
• 3. Listen for the cooling fan: During operation (before the error appears), listen for a steady fan noise from the side or rear. If the fan is silent or intermittent, the cooling fan motor may be faulty.
• 4. Internal checks (advanced users): With the unit unplugged, remove the outer cover. Locate the magnetron and its thermal cut-out (small thermostat clipped to the magnetron body or waveguide). Check for loose connectors or signs of overheating. A tripped one-shot thermal fuse must be replaced; do not bypass it.
• 5. If the error recurs: Persistent E2 after ensuring good ventilation and fan operation usually indicates a failing magnetron or thermostat. These are high-voltage components and should be replaced by a qualified technician.
