Possible Causes
Open grill heating element,Failed grill thermostat or thermal fuse,Loose grill element wiring,Control board grill relay failure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the microwave and allow the grill section to cool completely before inspection.
- 1. Visual inspection of grill element: Open the door and inspect the grill element (usually at the top of the cavity). Look for breaks, blisters, or burn marks on the element surface.
- 2. Check for obvious wiring issues: If accessible without removing the cabinet, look for loose or discolored terminals at the ends of the grill element.
- 3. Internal checks (advanced): Remove the outer cover with the unit unplugged. Trace the wires from the grill element to the thermostat/thermal fuse and then to the control board. Check for continuity through the element and thermostat using a multimeter.
- 4. Replace failed components: If the grill element is open circuit or the grill thermostat/thermal fuse has blown, replace with the correct Russell Hobbs-compatible parts. Do not bypass safety thermostats.
- 5. If E8 remains after parts replacement: The grill relay on the control PCB may be defective and will require board repair or replacement by a technician.
