Possible Causes
Open convection heating element,Failed convection fan motor,Convection thermostat open,Loose wiring to convection assembly
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the microwave and allow it to cool fully before working on convection components.
- 1. Test convection mode: Set the microwave to convection-only mode at a moderate temperature and start. Listen for the convection fan. If there is no airflow sound, the fan motor may be faulty.
- 2. Visual inspection: Look through the rear or side vents inside the cavity for signs of a burnt convection element or blocked fan grille.
- 3. Internal access (advanced): Remove the outer cover. Locate the convection heater and fan assembly at the rear of the cavity. Check wiring connections and look for burnt or broken heater coils.
- 4. Electrical tests: With a multimeter, check continuity of the convection heater and thermostat. Replace any open components with Russell Hobbs-compatible parts.
- 5. Fan motor check: Spin the fan blades by hand (with power disconnected). If stiff or seized, replace the convection fan motor.
- 6. If E9 persists: The control PCB's convection circuit or relay may be faulty and should be evaluated by a technician.
