Microwave shows a turntable or motor error; the glass tray does not rotate during cooking, or rotation is jerky and noisy.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the microwave before removing the turntable or accessing the underside.
Steps to diagnose turntable issues:
- 1. Remove and inspect the glass tray: Take out the glass turntable and the plastic support ring with wheels. Clean both thoroughly and check for cracks or flat spots on the wheels.
- 2. Check the coupler: Inspect the plastic coupler that fits over the motor shaft in the center of the cavity floor. If it is cracked, stripped, or loose, it may not engage the tray properly.
- 3. Test rotation without load: With the tray and ring removed, run the microwave for a few seconds (with a small cup of water placed off-center on the floor to absorb energy). Observe the coupler; it should rotate smoothly. If it does not move or is erratic, the motor may be faulty.
- 4. Check for obstructions: Ensure no food debris or broken glass is lodged around the coupler or under the support ring.
Motor replacement (technician-level):
- 5. Access the motor: Unplug the unit, remove the outer cover, and access the underside of the cavity where the turntable motor is mounted.
- 6. Test motor continuity: Use a multimeter to check the motor windings. An open circuit indicates a failed motor.
- 7. Replace motor: Remove mounting screws, disconnect the wiring, and install a Sage-compatible turntable motor. Refit the coupler from inside the cavity.
After reassembly, test with the tray and support ring installed. If the error persists, the control PCB turntable drive circuit may be at fault.
