Possible Causes
Debris under turntable support ring, worn or flat-spotted support wheels, cracked turntable coupler, dry or failing turntable motor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the microwave before removing the turntable components.
Steps to resolve turntable noise:
- 1. Remove and clean: Take out the glass tray and support ring. Clean the cavity floor, ring, and tray thoroughly to remove crumbs or hardened spills.
- 2. Inspect wheels: Check the support ring wheels for flat spots, cracks, or missing rollers. Replace the support ring if damaged.
- 3. Check coupler: Inspect the plastic coupler on the floor for cracks or wear. Replace if it wobbles on the motor shaft.
- 4. Test without load: Run the microwave briefly with only a small cup of water and no tray to listen to the motor. If grinding persists, the motor may be failing.
If cleaning and replacing the support ring or coupler do not resolve the noise, the turntable motor may need replacement by a technician.
