Microwave beeps and shows E2; oven light and turntable may work but food does not heat.

Safety warning: High-voltage components inside a microwave (transformer, capacitor, diode, magnetron) can be lethal. Do not attempt internal high-voltage repairs unless you are trained and equipped to safely discharge the capacitor and follow microwave safety standards.

Basic user checks:

• 1. Check ventilation: Ensure the Salter microwave has adequate clearance around the sides, top, and rear as specified in the user manual. Blocked vents can cause overheating and trigger E2. Remove any items blocking the vents and clean dust from the vent grilles.
• 2. Avoid running empty: Running the microwave with no load can overheat the magnetron. Always place a microwave-safe container with water when testing.
• 3. Power reset: Unplug the microwave for 10–15 minutes to allow thermal cut-outs to reset. Plug back in and test with a cup of water for 30–60 seconds.

Advanced checks (technician level):

• Remove the cabinet and verify continuity of the magnetron thermal cut-out and cavity thermal cut-out with a multimeter.
• Inspect wiring to the magnetron and high-voltage transformer for heat damage or loose spade connectors.
• Test the magnetron for shorts to ground and open filaments. Replace the magnetron if defective with a Salter-compatible magnetron of the same rating.

If E2 reappears after ensuring proper ventilation and a full power reset, discontinue use and have the high-voltage system professionally inspected.
