Possible Causes
Corrupted control board memory, Damaged control PCB from power surge, Loose display/control ribbon cable
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the microwave before removing any panels.
Steps:
- 1. Hard reset: Unplug the Salter microwave for at least 15 minutes. This can clear transient memory faults. Plug back in and set the clock, then test a short heating cycle.
- 2. Check power outlet: Plug another appliance into the same socket to confirm stable power. Avoid using multi-way adapters or extension leads for high-power microwaves.
- 3. Inspect control panel connections (advanced): Remove the outer cabinet and carefully access the control panel. Check the ribbon cable between the keypad/display and the main control PCB. Reseat the connector fully.
- 4. Surge damage: If E4 appeared immediately after a power surge and persists after reset, the control PCB is likely damaged and must be replaced with a Salter-compatible board.
Because this fault involves low-voltage electronics rather than high-voltage components, a skilled DIYer can sometimes replace the control PCB, but if you are unsure, use a professional technician.
