Possible Causes
Damaged membrane keypad, Loose keypad ribbon cable, Faulty control PCB keypad interface
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the microwave before touching the control panel internals.
Steps:
- 1. Clean the keypad surface: Wipe the keypad with a slightly damp cloth and mild detergent, then dry. Sticky residue can sometimes cause false key presses.
- 2. Power reset: Unplug for 10 minutes, then reconnect and test all keys.
- 3. Check for moisture: If steam has entered the control area (common when cooking on the hob beneath a built-in unit), allow the microwave to dry for several hours with the door open, then test again.
- 4. Ribbon cable reseat (advanced): Remove the control panel assembly and carefully reseat the keypad ribbon cable into the control PCB connector.
- 5. Replace keypad: If specific buttons never respond or trigger wrong functions, the membrane keypad or full control panel fascia must be replaced with the correct Salter part.
If E6 remains after cleaning and resetting, replacement of the keypad or control PCB is usually required.
