Possible Causes
Faulty Start button on membrane keypad, Loose keypad ribbon cable, Control PCB input failure, Child lock function enabled
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug before removing any panels.
Steps:
- 1. Check child lock: Many Salter microwaves have a child lock. Look for a key symbol on the display. To clear, press and hold the Stop/Cancel button or a specific key combination (refer to the user manual) for several seconds.
- 2. Test other keys: Try setting the clock or using preset programs. If only the Start key fails, the keypad is likely faulty.
- 3. Power reset: Unplug for 5–10 minutes and test again.
- 4. Keypad inspection (advanced): Remove the control panel and reseat the keypad ribbon cable. If the Start pad still does not respond, replace the membrane keypad or full control panel assembly.
