Possible Causes
Protective oils burning off heating elements, Dust on internal components, Residual manufacturing odours
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Mild odour on first use is normal, but heavy smoke or persistent strong smells are not.
Steps:
- 1. Initial burn-in: Run the microwave empty on grill or convection mode (if available) for 10–15 minutes, following the user manual, to burn off residues. For microwave-only models, heat a large bowl of water for several minutes.
- 2. Ventilate: Keep the kitchen well ventilated during this process.
- 3. Persistent smell: If the smell persists after several uses or is accompanied by smoke, unplug and have the unit inspected for overheating components.
