Possible Causes
Shorted touch panel, Damaged keypad ribbon cable, Faulty main PCB, Liquid spill into control area
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power before touching any internal parts. Do not use the microwave until the fault is resolved.
- Hard reset: Unplug for 10–15 minutes, then reconnect. If 5E reappears immediately, the fault is likely hardware-related.
- Check for spills: Inspect the keypad area for evidence of liquid spills or heavy cleaning solution use. Clean gently with a dry cloth and allow several hours to dry fully.
- Access control panel: Remove the top grille (on OTR models) and the screw(s) securing the control panel. Tilt the panel out and inspect the keypad ribbon for kinks, burns, or corrosion.
- Reconnect or replace: Reseat the ribbon cable. If the error persists, replace the keypad/control panel assembly as a unit, following a service manual or professional guidance.
