Possible Causes
Shorted membrane keypad, Contaminated touch panel ribbon connector, Failed control panel PCB, Moisture ingress behind keypad
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the microwave from the wall outlet. If it is an over-the-range (OTR) model, switch off the circuit breaker as well. Do not operate a microwave with suspected control faults.
- Power reset: Leave the unit unplugged for 10–15 minutes to discharge internal electronics, then plug back in and check if the SE code clears.
- Inspect keypad area: Look for signs of moisture, steam damage, or food residue around the keypad. Wipe the surface with a slightly damp cloth and then dry thoroughly.
- Check ribbon cable: If you can safely remove the control panel (usually by removing the top grille and one or two mounting screws), gently disconnect and reconnect the flat ribbon cable from the keypad to the control board. Inspect for corrosion or burnt spots.
- Test operation: With the cover and grille reinstalled, restore power and test the keypad. If random beeping or SE returns, the membrane keypad or full control panel assembly must be replaced.
- Do NOT bypass safety: Never attempt to bypass door switches or run the unit with covers removed. High-voltage components inside can retain a lethal charge even when unplugged.
