Possible Causes
Damaged or burnt waveguide cover, Metal object or foil in cavity, Food splatter carbonized on cavity walls, Exposed metal on rack supports
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Stop the microwave immediately by opening the door or pressing STOP. Unplug the unit and allow it to cool.
Steps:
- 1. Remove metal: Ensure no metal utensils, twist ties, or foil are inside (unless specifically allowed by Sharp instructions).
- 2. Inspect waveguide cover: Locate the small mica or plastic cover on the side wall (waveguide cover). If it is burnt, cracked, or has holes, it must be replaced.
- 3. Clean cavity: Thoroughly clean any burnt food or grease from the walls and ceiling using mild detergent. Carbonized residue can cause arcing.
Repair: Replace a damaged waveguide cover with the correct Sharp part. If arcing persists or there is visible damage to the metal cavity or waveguide, have the unit inspected by a technician.
