Possible Causes

Defective primary door switch, Defective secondary door switch, Misaligned door latch hooks, Damaged door switch wiring harness

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

SAFETY FIRST: Unplug the microwave from the mains before any disassembly. Microwaves contain a high-voltage capacitor that can retain a dangerous charge even when unplugged. Do not touch the high-voltage section (capacitor, transformer, magnetron) unless you are trained and know how to safely discharge the capacitor.

This error usually indicates the control board is not seeing the correct signal from the door interlock switches.

  • Step 1 – Basic checks:
    • Open and close the door firmly several times; listen for distinct clicks from the door switches.
    • Inspect the door for sagging or misalignment; check that the door closes evenly on all sides.
    • Check that no food debris or warped door seals are preventing full closure.
  • Step 2 – Inspect door latch and switches (with power unplugged):
    • Remove the outer cabinet (usually screws at the back and sides of SilverCrest countertop models).
    • Locate the door latch assembly and the stack of microswitches (primary, secondary, and monitor switch) near the door opening.
    • Check the plastic latch hooks on the door and the latch bracket inside the cabinet for cracks or deformation.
    • Inspect the wiring harness to the switches for loose connectors or burnt terminals.
  • Step 3 – Test switches (for qualified persons with a multimeter):
    • Label and disconnect the wires from each door switch.
    • Using a multimeter on continuity, verify that the primary and secondary switches change state (open/closed) when the door is opened/closed.
    • Replace any switch that does not operate crisply or shows inconsistent readings.
  • Step 4 – Reassemble and test:
    • Reinstall the cabinet, ensuring no wires are pinched.
    • Plug in and test with a cup of water for 30–60 seconds.

If E01 persists after replacing faulty switches and confirming alignment, the control PCB may be defective and should be diagnosed by a professional.
