Possible Causes

Failed magnetron cooling fan motor, Blocked air vents, Open magnetron thermal cut-out, Failing magnetron drawing excessive current

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

SAFETY FIRST: Unplug the microwave. High-voltage components inside can be lethal. Do not touch or service the high-voltage section unless you are trained and can safely discharge the capacitor.

E02 typically indicates overheating around the magnetron or cavity.

  • Step 1 – Ventilation check:
    • Ensure the microwave has adequate clearance on all sides as specified in the SilverCrest manual (usually at least 10 cm at sides and back, 20–30 cm above).
    • Inspect rear and side vents for dust, grease, or obstruction; clean with a soft brush and vacuum.
  • Step 2 – Internal airflow (unplugged):
    • Remove the outer cabinet.
    • Locate the cooling fan motor near the magnetron and rear vents.
    • Spin the fan blades by hand; they should move freely without scraping.
    • Check for broken blades or objects obstructing the fan.
  • Step 3 – Thermal cut-out inspection (for trained persons):
    • Identify the magnetron thermal cut-out (small round thermostat clipped to the magnetron body or waveguide).
    • Check for loose connections or signs of overheating.
    • With a multimeter, test for continuity at room temperature; an open reading indicates a blown cut-out that must be replaced with the exact SilverCrest-specified rating.
  • Step 4 – Test operation:
    • Reassemble the cabinet.
    • Run the microwave with a cup of water on medium power for several minutes and monitor for E02.

If the fan runs correctly and vents are clear but E02 recurs, the magnetron may be overheating due to internal failure and should be replaced by a professional technician.
