Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
SAFETY: Unplug the microwave before removing any panels. Avoid touching the high-voltage section.
E04 indicates the control board is detecting stuck or invalid key inputs.
- Step 1 – Power reset:
- Unplug the microwave for 10 minutes.
- Plug back in and check if E04 clears.
- Step 2 – Check for stuck keys:
- Inspect the keypad surface for spills, grease, or dents.
- Clean the keypad gently with a slightly damp cloth (no excessive moisture) and dry thoroughly.
- Press each key individually to feel for normal tactile response.
- Step 3 – Inspect keypad connection (unplugged):
- Remove the control panel assembly (usually held by screws behind the top grille or side of SilverCrest models).
- Locate the flat ribbon cable from the keypad to the control PCB.
- Disconnect and reconnect the ribbon to clean contacts; ensure it is fully seated.
- Step 4 – Test:
- Reassemble the panel, plug in, and test all keys.
If some keys still do not respond or E04 returns, the membrane keypad or the entire control panel assembly will likely need replacement.
