Microwave shows E16; door appears closed but unit will not start

SAFETY: Unplug the microwave before adjusting any mechanical parts.

E16 indicates the control does not see the door as securely closed.

• Step 1 – Visual door check:
  • Check that the door sits evenly and flush with the cabinet.
  • Look for gaps or rubbing on one side.
• Step 2 – Latch inspection:
  • Open the door and inspect the plastic latch hooks for wear or cracks.
  • Inspect the latch openings in the cabinet for broken plastic or metal.
• Step 3 – Gentle adjustment:
  • If the door is slightly sagging, gently lift it while closing to see if the error clears.
  • Minor hinge misalignment can sometimes be corrected by carefully tightening hinge screws (if accessible) or slightly adjusting the door position.

Severely damaged doors or latch brackets should be replaced with SilverCrest parts; do not operate the microwave with a compromised door system.
