Possible Causes

Faulty door interlock switch not detected as closed, Defective START button on touch panel, Control PCB input fault, Child lock active

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug before any physical inspection of the door or panel.

Basic checks:

  • Verify that the door is fully closed and latched. Open and close it firmly.
  • Check the display for a child lock icon. If present, deactivate the child lock using the procedure in the SMEG manual.
  • Try pressing START firmly and in different positions on the touch area to rule out a worn contact.

Reset:

  • Unplug for 5–10 minutes, then plug back in and set the clock.

If still no response:

  • The door switch circuit or START key may be faulty. A technician can test the switches and touch panel and replace the defective part.
