Safety: Unplug the microwave before inspecting moving parts.

User-level checks:

Remove and clean the turntable tray and roller ring. Check for cracks or missing wheels.
Inspect the turntable well for debris, broken glass, or utensils.
Run the microwave briefly with the tray removed (if allowed by the manual) to see if the noise changes.

If noise persists:

Listen to identify if the noise comes from the top, side, or rear (fan or transformer area).
A loud electrical hum or arcing sound may indicate a failing magnetron or transformer, which requires professional service.

Stop using the microwave if you hear arcing, burning, or metallic scraping sounds until it is inspected.
