Possible Causes
Failed membrane keypad, Loose or oxidized keypad ribbon cable, Moisture ingress behind control panel, Faulty display/control PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the microwave before removing the control panel.
- Step 1 – Power reset: Unplug for 5–10 minutes, then reconnect and test. Sometimes static or minor glitches clear with a reset.
- Step 2 – Inspect keypad ribbon: Remove the control panel assembly. Carefully disconnect and reconnect the flat ribbon cable from the keypad to the control PCB. Clean the contacts gently with isopropyl alcohol if they appear tarnished.
- Step 3 – Check for moisture: Look for condensation or staining behind the keypad, especially if the microwave is installed above a hob. Allow to dry thoroughly and improve ventilation if needed.
- Step 4 – Test keypad function: With the panel reassembled, test multiple buttons. If some keys work and others do not, the membrane keypad is likely failing and should be replaced.
If replacing the keypad does not resolve E6, the display/control PCB may be defective and require replacement.
