Possible Causes
Open or shorted grill heating element, Failed grill thermostat or thermal cut-out, Blocked top vents causing overheating, Faulty grill relay on control PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the microwave and allow it to cool completely before inspection.
- Step 1 – Check for obvious overheating: Inspect the interior roof and grill element for discoloration, warping, or burnt food deposits. Clean any heavy grease or carbon buildup that could cause hot spots.
- Step 2 – Inspect grill element: Remove the outer cabinet. Locate the grill element at the top of the cavity. Check wiring connections for burning or looseness. If the element is visibly cracked or broken, it must be replaced.
- Step 3 – Test grill thermostat / cut-out: Locate the grill thermostat or thermal cut-out near the grill element. Test for continuity with a multimeter. Replace if open.
- Step 4 – Ensure ventilation: Confirm that top and rear vents are not blocked by cabinets or objects. Swan combination microwaves require specific clearances for safe grill operation.
If the grill element and thermostats test correctly but E7 persists, the control PCB grill relay may be faulty and should be checked by a technician.
