Possible Causes
Failed convection fan motor, Blocked convection fan, Faulty convection temperature sensor, Defective convection heater thermostat
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the microwave and let it cool before working on convection components.
- Step 1 – Listen for fan operation: When starting convection mode, listen for the internal fan. If it does not run or is very noisy, the fan motor or blades may be obstructed or faulty.
- Step 2 – Inspect convection fan: Remove the rear interior panel (if accessible) or outer cabinet to reach the convection fan. Check for food debris or foil blocking the blades. Clean carefully.
- Step 3 – Test fan motor: With the unit unplugged, test the fan motor windings for continuity. Replace the motor if open or seized.
- Step 4 – Check convection sensor and thermostat: Locate the convection temperature sensor and thermostat near the convection heater. Test for correct resistance (sensor) and continuity (thermostat). Replace any faulty components.
If all components test good, the control PCB may not be driving the convection circuit correctly and should be inspected by a professional.
