Possible Causes
Shorted membrane keypad, Moisture or liquid ingress into control panel, Damaged keypad ribbon cable, Faulty control PCB scanning circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the microwave before working on the control panel.
- Step 1 – Power reset: Unplug for 10 minutes, then reconnect. If SE clears temporarily but returns, the keypad is likely failing.
- Step 2 – Dry the panel: If steam or liquid has contacted the keypad, gently wipe it dry and allow several hours of drying time. Avoid using the microwave above a hob without adequate ventilation.
- Step 3 – Inspect keypad ribbon: Remove the control panel and check the flat ribbon cable for corrosion or damage. Reseat it firmly into the control PCB.
- Step 4 – Replace keypad: If random key presses or SE persist, replace the membrane keypad assembly specific to your Swan model.
If a new keypad does not resolve SE, the control PCB may have a scanning circuit fault and should be replaced.
