Possible Causes
Blocked top or rear vents, Failed cavity cooling fan, Faulty cavity temperature sensor or thermostat, Operating with no load (empty cavity) causing overheating
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the microwave and allow it to cool for at least 30 minutes.
- Check usage conditions: Ensure you are not running the microwave empty or with very small loads at high power for long periods. Always place food or water inside when operating.
- Inspect ventilation: Verify that the Telefunken microwave has the recommended clearance from walls and cabinets. Clean dust and grease from all vents.
- Check cavity fan operation: With the cover removed (for trained persons), start a short heating cycle and confirm that the cavity cooling fan runs. If the fan does not start, test and replace the fan motor.
- Test cavity thermostat/sensor: Locate the cavity thermostat or NTC sensor (often on the top of the cavity). With power disconnected, test for continuity (thermostat) or resistance (sensor) according to the service manual. Replace if open or out of specification.
- Reset and test: Some thermostats are self-resetting; once cooled, they close again. After cleaning vents and confirming fan operation, plug in and test. If E05 recurs, professional diagnosis is recommended.
