Possible Causes
Failed convection fan motor,Open convection heating element,Faulty convection thermostat or sensor,Loose wiring to convection components
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before servicing. Heating elements can remain hot after use.
- Step 1 – Test basic microwave mode: Verify that standard microwave-only cooking works. If only convection/combination fails with E12, the issue is in the convection system.
- Step 2 – Listen for fan: Start a convection preheat. If the fan does not run or makes grinding noises, the convection fan motor may be failing.
- Step 3 – Access rear components (qualified persons): Remove the outer cover. Locate the convection fan motor and heater assembly at the rear of the cavity.
- Step 4 – Test components: Use a multimeter to check the convection heater for continuity and the fan motor for proper resistance. Inspect the convection thermostat/sensor for continuity and secure wiring.
- Step 5 – Replace faulty parts: Replace any open heater, seized fan motor, or defective thermostat with Thermador OEM parts.
Note: After repair, run a short convection cycle to verify proper airflow and heating.
