Possible Causes
Failing high-voltage transformer, shorted magnetron, arcing at waveguide cover, contaminated or burnt waveguide cover
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the microwave immediately if you smell burning or see sparks.
User-level checks:
- 1. Inspect interior: Look at the waveguide cover (usually a small mica or plastic panel on the side wall). If it is burnt, cracked, or has food splatter, it can cause arcing and noise.
- 2. Clean cavity: Thoroughly clean the interior with mild detergent and water. Remove all food splatter, especially near the waveguide cover.
- 3. Replace damaged waveguide cover: If the cover is burnt or damaged, replace it with a Tower-compatible waveguide cover before further use.
Advanced:
- If noise persists with a clean, intact waveguide cover, the HV transformer or magnetron may be failing and should be tested and replaced by a technician.
