Possible Causes
Defective low-voltage power supply on control board, Loose power cord connection, Faulty line filter board, Damaged main fuse or wiring harness
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety warning: Always unplug the microwave before removing covers. Internal circuits can be hazardous.
Steps to address E5:
- 1. Verify outlet and cord: Plug another appliance into the same outlet to confirm proper voltage. Inspect the Tristar microwave power cord for cuts, burns, or kinks. Replace the cord if damaged.
- 2. Check for tripped breaker: Ensure the household circuit breaker or fuse supplying the microwave has not tripped or blown.
- 3. Inspect internal connections: Remove the outer cabinet. Check the main power entry, line filter board, and wiring harness connections to the control PCB. Reseat any loose connectors.
- 4. Main fuse check: Locate the main ceramic fuse near the power entry. With the unit unplugged, remove the fuse and test for continuity. Replace only with the same rating if blown. If the new fuse blows immediately, there is a deeper fault that requires professional diagnosis.
- 5. Control board evaluation: If power is present to the control board but E5 persists and no functions operate, the low-voltage supply on the control PCB may be defective. Replacement of the control PCB is typically required and should be done by a qualified technician.
