Possible Causes
Open or shorted cavity thermistor, Damaged sensor wiring, Loose connector at control board, Failed control board sensor input
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power at the breaker before servicing.
- Locate thermistor: On Viking convection microwaves, the cavity thermistor is usually mounted on the interior wall or top of the cavity.
- Inspect sensor: Remove mounting screws and gently pull the sensor forward. Check for damage or discoloration.
- Check wiring: Follow the harness to the control board and ensure connectors are fully seated.
- Replace thermistor: If wiring is intact and E3 persists, replace the Viking cavity thermistor with the correct part.
- Control board: If a new thermistor does not clear E3, the main control board may be defective.
