Possible Causes
Stuck keypad button, Shorted keypad matrix line, Damaged keypad ribbon cable, Faulty main control board input circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the Viking microwave before opening any panels. Avoid contact with the high-voltage section.
- Check for stuck keys: Run your finger across all keys to feel for one that is sunken or not clicking. Clean the keypad surface with a mild cleaner on a cloth (never spray directly).
- Power cycle: Disconnect power for 10 minutes, then restore. If F2 reappears as soon as a specific key is pressed, that key circuit is likely shorted.
- Inspect keypad ribbon: Remove the control panel and inspect the flat ribbon cable from the keypad to the control board. Look for cracks, kinks, or discoloration. Reseat the connector fully.
- Test with keypad disconnected: With power off, unplug the keypad ribbon from the control board. Restore power carefully. If F2 is gone with the keypad disconnected, replace the keypad/control panel assembly. If F2 remains, the control board is suspect.
- Replace defective component: Install a new Viking keypad/control panel or main control board as indicated by the tests. Ensure all mounting screws and ground wires are reinstalled.
