Possible Causes
Shorted membrane keypad, Moisture intrusion behind keypad, Damaged keypad ribbon cable, Faulty control board keypad interface
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power before removing the control panel.
- Dry out moisture: If SE appeared after heavy boiling or cleaning, leave the door open and allow the control area to dry for several hours. You can aim a fan at the control panel (no heat) to speed drying.
- Clean keypad surface: Wipe the keypad gently with a dry cloth. Avoid liquid cleaners that can seep behind the membrane.
- Inspect keypad ribbon: Remove the control panel and inspect the keypad ribbon cable for corrosion or damage. Reseat the connector on the Viking control board.
- Test with keypad disconnected: With power off, unplug the keypad ribbon from the board, then restore power. If SE disappears, the keypad is defective. If SE remains, the control board is likely at fault.
- Replace defective part: Install a new Viking keypad/control panel assembly or main control board as indicated. Ensure all mounting tabs and screws are secure.
