Possible Causes

Shorted keypad matrix, Damaged keypad ribbon cable, Failed control board keypad input circuit

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect power before removing any panels. Avoid contact with high-voltage components.

  • Reset the unit: Unplug for 5 minutes, then reconnect. If F2 returns immediately, proceed with inspection.
  • Check for moisture/cleaning damage: If the keypad was recently cleaned with liquid spray, moisture may have seeped behind the panel. Allow the unit to dry for several hours with the door open, then test again.
  • Inspect keypad and ribbon: Remove the control panel. Examine the keypad surface for cracks, warping, or signs of liquid intrusion. Inspect the ribbon cable for kinks, corrosion, or burnt spots.
  • Reseat ribbon connector: Gently unplug and reinsert the keypad ribbon into the control board connector, ensuring it is fully seated and straight.
  • Replace keypad or control panel: If F2 persists and buttons are erratic or non-functional, replace the membrane keypad or the entire control panel assembly as specified for your Whirlpool model.

Note: If replacing the keypad does not resolve the issue, the electronic control board may also need replacement.
