Possible Causes
Blown internal line fuse, Open thermal fuse or cavity thermostat, Failed line filter board, No power at outlet
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the microwave before opening the cabinet. Internal fuses are on live circuits.
- Check outlet: Plug a lamp or other small appliance into the same outlet to verify power. Reset any tripped breaker or GFCI.
- Inspect power cord: Look for cuts, burns, or loose connections where the cord enters the microwave.
- Access internal fuse: Remove the outer cabinet. Locate the line fuse (usually near the power cord entry or on the noise filter board). Do not bypass the fuse.
- Test and replace fuse: With a meter, check continuity of the fuse. If blown, investigate for obvious shorts (burnt wires, arcing) before replacing with the exact same type and rating.
- Check thermal fuses/thermostats: Whirlpool microwaves often have thermal cutoffs on the cavity and magnetron. Test for continuity and replace any open device with the correct part.
- If fuse blows again: A deeper fault (shorted transformer, capacitor, or wiring) exists. Stop replacing fuses and call a technician.
