Possible Causes

Blocked cooling vents, Failed magnetron cooling fan motor, Faulty thermal cut-out on magnetron, Magnetron overheating due to internal failure

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the microwave. Internal components can store lethal voltages; do not touch the high-voltage section unless trained.

  • Check ventilation: Ensure the microwave has adequate clearance on all sides as per Zanussi manual. Clean dust and grease from external vents with a soft brush and vacuum.
  • Inspect cooling fan: Remove the outer cover. Locate the magnetron cooling fan (usually near the top rear). Spin the fan blades by hand; they should move freely. If seized or noisy, the fan motor is likely faulty.
  • Clean internal vents: Use a vacuum and soft brush to remove dust from internal air channels and fan shroud.
  • Check thermal cut-out (TCO): Locate the thermal cut-out mounted on or near the magnetron. With power disconnected, test for continuity. An open TCO indicates it has tripped or failed and must be replaced with the exact Zanussi-specified part.
  • Reassemble and test: After replacing any faulty parts, reassemble the cabinet and test with a cup of water on full power, monitoring for recurrence of E02.

If E02 returns quickly, the magnetron itself may be overheating and should be replaced by a professional.
