Possible Causes
Defective magnetic reed switch or Hall sensor, Missing or weakened lid magnet, Misaligned sensor bracket, Damaged sensor wiring
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the appliance before accessing the lid hinge or sensor area.
- Check lid magnet: Many AEG models use a small magnet in the lid to signal position. Verify that the magnet is present and not loose or missing.
- Locate sensor: Find the reed or Hall sensor in the body near the lid hinge or rim. Ensure it is firmly mounted and aligned with the magnet path.
- Test sensor: Use a multimeter to test the reed switch for open/closed state when a magnet is brought near. Replace if it does not switch reliably.
- Inspect wiring: Follow the sensor wires to the main PCB and check for breaks, especially where they pass through moving parts.
- Replace sensor assembly: If alignment and wiring are correct but E18 persists, replace the lid position sensor assembly.
