E3
All-Clad Overtemperature / Dry Pot Protection

E3 error appears during preheat or pressure build; unit stops heating.

Possible Causes

Inner pot not in place, Insufficient liquid in inner pot, Food stuck and burning on heater plate, Faulty overtemperature sensor or thermal fuse, Blocked air vents causing heat buildup

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the cooker and allow it to cool fully. Do not add water to a hot dry pot suddenly as it may warp or splatter.

  • Check inner pot: Confirm the stainless-steel inner pot is correctly seated on the heating plate. Never operate the cooker without the inner pot.
  • Verify liquid level: For pressure or slow cook programs, ensure you have at least the minimum liquid recommended in the All-Clad manual (typically 1–2 cups). Add more liquid if needed.
  • Clean heater plate: Remove the inner pot and inspect the heating plate for burnt food or discoloration. Wipe gently with a damp cloth once cool. Do not pour water directly into the cooker base.
  • Check bottom of inner pot: Make sure the bottom is clean, flat, and free of burnt-on residue that could cause hot spots.
  • Ventilation and placement: Ensure the cooker is not pushed against a wall or under low cabinets where heat can accumulate. Provide adequate airflow around the unit.
  • Retry: Reassemble, add proper liquid, and restart the program. If E3 appears again quickly, discontinue use.

Persistent E3 may indicate a failing overtemperature sensor or thermal fuse, which should be diagnosed and replaced by a technician.
