Possible Causes
Aging or drifted NTC sensor, Loose sensor mounting against heating plate, Poor solder joint on control board sensor input, Firmware misreading sensor due to intermittent connection
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power and allow the unit to cool before disassembly.
- Reset and test: Unplug for 10 minutes, then plug back in and try a different program. If E5 appears across multiple programs, continue.
- Check sensor mounting: From the underside, verify that the bottom NTC sensor is firmly clamped to the heating plate or its bracket. If it has pulled away, resecure it using the original clip or bracket so it makes solid thermal contact.
- Inspect wiring and connector: Look for intermittent connections: gently wiggle the sensor harness where it plugs into the PCB while the unit is unplugged. Reseat the connector.
- Visual board check: Examine the control board for cracked solder joints at the sensor connector. If you see obvious cracks or burnt areas, the board may need replacement.
- Replace sensor if needed: If all connections are solid and E5 persists, replace the bottom NTC sensor with a compatible Aroma part.
- Do not modify firmware: Users should not attempt to reprogram or alter the control board firmware; this can create unsafe operating conditions.
